Why are most of the social media apps blue in color?
Some of the most famous social media and social networking sites like Facebook, LinkedIn, Telegram use the color blue with different shades in their visual identity. Lets see why.
You might have noticed a lot of social media and social networking apps having different shades of blue in their logos. If you think it is just a coincidence, let us tell you it’s not.
Companies consider a lot of psychological factors to decide the colors. The colors you use with your marketing materials can help you to use them as emotional triggers to help spark a purchasing decision. Colors stick out the most in our minds, which means your brand will often be associated with the color you choose for your logo, website, packaging, and other business-related items. Color psychology is the study of colors and how they stir people's emotions. Due to the discoveries of color psychology, businesses can discover which colors match their brand personality best. Each color has a different psychology, but on the web, blue is the most prevalent. Let's dive into blue color psychology further.
The blue color is used to incite a feeling of innovation amongst its clients and has an innate ability to hold people’s trust and attention. Unlike, say, white or red, it doesn’t do much to affect the eye negatively. It’s also an easy color to look at for long periods. Though blue is commonly seen as cold, it's very neutral as a color when designing apps. Even our phones and computers use blue to denote whether something has been selected or is interactive. Choosing colors like green and red might disrupt the flow of the app. For Example: If a social media app has red as the default color, then it might be difficult to choose another color for deleting the account. Another reason can be that about 10 percent of the population is red-green colorblind. This means that blue is a good cool-toned color to use so individuals that are red-green colorblind can see text, logos, and other web content.
The main aim of social media is to promote interaction and communication among users. Blue is the color most commonly associated with communication – it's fluid and calm and evokes a safe feeling that every person should love having. It encourages viewers to view content as inviting and friendly.
That being said, of course, choosing blue color is not always the case. Many apps like YouTube, WhatsApp have different colors as their identity. We can conclude that as long as the app encourages interaction, any color can work.
